CULTURE-SCHMULTURE
    BRING ON THE BROADS

There always has been art involved in motorcycling. The first that would
come to mind is that of David Mann, but there are many other kinds as well.

The creation of a motorcycle, whether it is a custom or a restored classic,
is a form of art. We, as bikers, have shows all over the world to display
them. The clothing, jewelry, and, of course, the tattooing are all forms of
art. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Many things we see on a
daily basis and fake for granted is art.

What is neat, here, is that an organization that many would think only
promote concerts, ballet, and such, is really more than that. The Brevard
Cultural Alliance is a nonprofit organization that puts on a wide variety of
events, exhibits, classes, and meetings throughout the year.

This event was two days long and held at a local mall, therefore getting a
lot of exposure. During these two days, motorcycles, leather work, jewelry,
clothing, plus artwork in various forms were on display. Sunday included an
outside bike show as well as a Black Leather Ball at the end of the event.

The Ball included music by “Derek and The Slammers,” finger food, and a cash
bar. There was also a leather and lace fashion show a ‘97 Harley Bad Boy
raffle, and the tattoo contest, which was a real hit.

The money that was raised by this event is to be used for a Youth At Risk
program that takes at-risk kids, age 10 to 17, who are having a problem and
offers them a positive alternative. I am sure that some of these kids will
make it into the world of motorcycling and contribute to the biker
    lifestyle.

If you are interested in this type of event and want more information on
being involved in it next year, please contact Lynne Vroubas, Brevard

Oh! For your info, according to Webster’s, culture is defined as: The
quality in a person or society that arises from the interest in and
acquaintance with what is generally regarded as excellent in arts, letters,
    manners, scholarly pursuits, etc. Cool!!!

    See ya there next year.
